Meet our principal - Stewart Hunt
Stewart began his career in insurance in 2003 after emigrating to New Zealand from the UK, first with State Commercial and then with Crombie Lockwood as an insurance broker. He worked at Marsh as a senior risk advisor for 10 years before establishing First Commercial Insurance Brokers in 2018.
Stewart believes strongly in building one-on-one relationships in business, keen to get to know people before offering them advice.
Outside of work, Stewart is married to Erin and together they have two daughters called Darcy and Billie. In his spare time he plays 11-a-side football for an over 40s team in the winter and in the summer enjoys family weekends away around New Zealand.

Alex is passionate and results-driven professional with 12 years of experience in the insurance industry and a relentless pursuit of excellence. He has a proven track record of leading and developing high-performing teams while achieving significant organisational growth. His expertise includes building and nurturing strategic partnerships, all while providing exceptional client service. Known for taking full ownership of tasks, he cultivates a culture of accountability and collaboration. With strong analytical thinking and effective problem-solving abilities, Alex is constantly motivated to improve and innovate.
In addition to being a dedicated professional, Alex is passionate about fitness and healthy eating. When not working, you can find Alex at the gym or experimenting with nutritious recipes. Alex is also an avid reader, recently diving into the rich world of Russian literature. This blend of physical wellness and intellectual curiosity adds a vibrant balance to Alex’s life.

Work with First Commercial Insurance Brokers
When dealing with a new client, our initial meeting is a chance for us to get to know each other. At the first meeting, we’ll do a lot of talking so we can really understand what your business is about and what areas need protecting. We also want you to feel comfortable working with First Commercial Insurance Brokers so you’ll learn a bit about us too.
Initial consultations are usually done face to face as we think it’s easier to talk that way, but if it suits you better we also offer phone and online meetings.
During the meeting we’ll discuss issues like what your current business financials look like and where you hope to be in five years time, how many employees you have, what sort of assets and equipment the business owns, and any other useful details such as whether you have an alarm and fire protection system and whether you’ve had any losses.
Following the meeting, we use this information to create a risk profile for your business. Then we’ll speak to a range of insurance providers on your behalf and arrange quotes.
Once we have all the required information we’ll arrange a second meeting with you. At this meeting, we’ll go over all the quotes and what the policies cover and talk through your options and our recommendations.
Lodging a claim
Unfortunately there may come a time when you have to lodge a claim on your insurance policy. We believe this is the true test of your relationship with your insurance advisor. We know that any time when you have to claim on your insurance can be stressful and you may also be dealing with other issues. So, we are committed to providing you with fast, efficient and personalised service that gets your claim sorted smoothly.
Our service includes:
- providing you with your Insurer’s Claim Form
- arranging for a Loss Assessor to be appointed if necessary
- guiding you carefully through to completion of Claim Form
- submitting your Claim Form to the Insurer on your behalf
- providing ongoing advice to ensure a fair and reasonable settlement
Lodging a claim:
- Contact us so we can discuss what’s happened and carefully review the event/s against your insurance cover.
- We’ll send you the relevant claim form/s and outline any other documentation your Insurer is likely to require.
- Fill out your claim form in as much detail as you can. (Remember, if you have any questions we’re always here to help!)
- Post or email your completed claim back to us so we can check everything and then forward it to the Insurer on your behalf.
